In line with our company culture (transparency), we wanted to give some clarity on how we think about time in office, holiday, and travel. Generally, the mantra goes "Use good judgement" and this page is meant to give you clarity rather than fixed rules. Use our ‣ and ‣ for guidance.
Some context first: Our goal is to build the best product on the market to solve a huge global problem, namely helping our customers to produce and provide sustainable materials in an industry that’s currently among the most unsustainable in the world. Every full-time Emidavinci owns a share in the company and should feel entitled to also behave as a co-owner (challenging bad decisions, holding others accountable…).
Emidavincis are an extremely ambitious Champions League team who want to move the world and use Emidat as a playground to grow personally on the way. We deeply care about the personal growth of every single Emidavinci and we want to create a culture where everyone can exploit their full potential and find personal fulfilment in their role.
Emidat is your once-in-a-lifetime chance to truly shape an industry and build your legacy! This is not done without significant input - you always get as much out as you put in.

Office & Hybrid working:
Especially in a fast-moving startup, even if we compile everything well on Notion, some things are only passed on informally at lunches, late pizza nights, or in the kitchen. In-person time is also an important way of building connections beyond work and really FEELING the culture. Hence, we optimise for in-person and in-office time where we can.
To ensure you are fully onboarded, have built relationships across the company and are well set up to succeed, we set the below expectations:
- For all Munich based employees: We expect you to be in the office 5 days a week for the first month with us.
- Post the onboarding period, hybrid work should be agreed with your Team Lead. Most people are in office 3-4 days per week. Of course, performance informs freedom.
- For all fully remote employees: We expect you to be in our office for at least your first week with us and a total of 4 weeks over the first 6 months. Travel and accommodation for this period will be covered by Emidat.
- Post the initial onboarding weeks, we bring remote employees to the office on a regular basis, i.e for a few days each quarter, especially when we run any company / team off-sites or strategy sessions.
Team-rhythms:
We value shared in-person time. Therefore, see below some of the regular team meetings & events we do to bring folks together.
- Munich Based Employees:
- Tuesday and Thursday lunches at 12:30 together as a team.
- Tuesday Pizza night with great free pizza for everyone who wants it.
- We do 1 in-person team event per month, normally the evening of the last Thursday of the month organised by a recent new-joiner.
- All Employees:
- Weekly team meetings (beginning of the week kick-off and end of week reflections) where we expect everyone to take-part (in person or virtually).
Work & Travel:
While we optimise for in-person time, we also want Emidavincis to have the ability to work from different locations where & when needed, especially when family / friends are located elsewhere.
- We allow every Emidavinci to work remotely for a total of 8 weeks per year, max. 4 weeks in one piece.
- While we give this freedom, we expect every Emidavinci to live up to what is needed by our team and customers and make sure that work quality and commitment don't suffer.
- Generally, use good judgement, for example
- Proactively communicate with your team
- Manage time-zone differences (e.g., by adjusting your schedule for important calls)
- Be here to give new team members a great start.
- If you are in a customer-facing role, be available during customer working hours
Working hours:
When committing to work at Emidat, you commit to invest your full energy into building up this company and team. This means going way beyond an average job - we build and co-own this company together; we want you to fulfil your personal purpose at Emidat and feel true ownership and pride in everything you do. If you are searching for “just a job”, this is not it.
- Set your boundaries and communicate them: this is a work environment that will feel fast and challenging. You will find yourself out of your comfort zone much more often than in a usual job. It is your responsibility to set boundaries and communicate with your team lead where you need support.
- Let’s take the calmer times to recharge so we can run when things are on fire.
- We focus on outcomes: don’t spend unfocussed hours sitting at your desk because you think you should be here - take a walk, take a nap, go for a run, do what you need to get back to productive, satisfying work (we call this “healthy hustle”!)
- However, if outcomes are consistently not where they should be, we will need to discuss if there is enough input to achieve the desired goals, or where support is needed to get back on track.
- Daily Async: To ensure team alignment, please be online / in office and share your async daily goals latest at 9.30am in your team's designated communication channel (e.g., Slack).
